Harry Kane: Tottenham's victory over Real Madrid 'great for England'
LONDON -- Harry Kane thinks Tottenham's victory over Real Madrid is great news for England, but says the national team also need to prove they can win big games.
Kane was one of five English starters along with Kieran Trippier, Eric Dier, Harry Winks and Dele Alli in Spurs' remarkable 3-1 win over the European champions at Wembley, where England host Germany and Brazil next week.
All five have been named in Gareth Southgate's 26-man squad for the friendlies, along with Danny Rose, who was an unused substitute against Real.
Like Real Madrid, Germany and Brazil are perennial winners but Kane, who has been sharing the England captaincy with Jordan Henderson, says England need to perform when the pressure is on.
"It's great for England, it's great for our national side, to be playing in those big games and performing in those big games," said Kane after the win over Real. "That's what we [England] need to do. I'm extremely proud, proud of the whole team. We all played very well and we deserved this night.

"I think we can carry this form into the internationals. But at the end of the day they're friendlies. The most important thing for us is doing it in big games, high pressure games. It will be a good chance next week to play against tough opposition, see where we're at, maybe try new things or see what the gaffer wants us to do. It matters more when the pressure is on, and tonight the pressure was on to qualify, we did that."
Over 83,000 supporters roared on Spurs against Real at Wembley and Kane believes the national stadium's atmosphere can be an important weapon for club and country.
"The atmosphere was incredible," he said. "The same last week against Liverpool. I think when we play like that, and we score goals, and we've got a lot of energy, the crowd just get off their feet. That's what we've got to build here, that sort of atmosphere, because when it gets going, it's tough for the away team to find a way to get past us."

Kane has previously said that his England debut is the proudest moment of his career and asked where the win over Real ranked, he said: "Right up there, of course. To beat the reigning champions convincingly as well, it doesn't get much better than that. To qualify, go through.
"We played very well. We looked at the clips at the Bernabeu, and we said if we're better on the ball we can definitely exploit the spaces. And we were today. We could even have been better today on the ball. I think the final pass, especially in the first half, could have been better -- 3-1, of course, against a team like Madrid, is a very special night."
